• A2:B6 is the range of cells that contains the data we want to search through. In this case, it’s the employee ID and salary columns.
• 2 is the column index that contains the value we want to return. In this example, it’s the second column, which is the salary column.
• FALSE tells Excel to only find exact matches.

Once you enter the formula, Excel will search for the employee ID in the table and return the corresponding salary in cell D3.
